POP poetry Challenge 2014

Welcome to the 2nd annual POP poetry Challenge!
- What is POP Poetry? POP Poetry is a slam poetry competition. Slam poetry is the competitive art of performance poetry.
- Who does it? Young poets perform their own poems and are judged by experts and members of the audience.
- What sort of poems? Poems can be on any subject and in any style. They may include heartfelt love poetry, searing social commentary, bittersweet personal confessional, or uproarious comic routines.
- Who takes part? Poets will compete in teams of 3-5 students; aged 13-19 (must be currently enrolled in high school). Within the team some events will be for single poets; while other events will be for two poets. Please note that speech and drama studios are welcome.
- What are the prizes? Prizes are big and include a R20 000 cash prize for the team. R10 000 will go to the winning team, R5 000 to the school and R5 000 to the teacher/coach of the winning team. There will also be a bursary valued at R100 000 from Boston Media House for the best performer or poet!
- When is the competition? The competition will take place on the weekend of 29-30 March 2014.
- Where is the competition? The competition will be hosted at The Victory Theatre.
